There are daily flights from the airport of Spata (Athens) to the airport of Heraklion and vice-versa. During the summer months, there are roughly 10-14 flights daily while in winter they decrease to about 7-10 flights. Also, Heraklion is connected with other cities in Greece (Thessalonica, Rhodes, Santorini, Mykonos, Paros). There are flights directly to Cyprus, as well as a lot of other cities all over Europe (charter flights).

There is a daily itinerary from the harbour of Piraeus to the harbour of Heraklion and vice-versa. The journey lasts approximately 6-9 hours depending on the weather and the time of the season. The harbour of Heraklion is also connected with Santorini, Rhodes, Karpathos, Kasso, Ios, Paros, Naxos, Syra, Tinos and Mykonos but with less frequent itineraries.
